I have been using PetFoodDirect.com for several years and have been pleased with their product line, pricing, quick delivery, and service. I started using Pet Food Direct when my cat Tinkerbelle needed prescription food for his IBD. The reason I started getting the food from Pet Food Direct instead of my vet was price and convenience. The prices were cheaper than I could get it from my vet even with shipping, so combined with the convenience of the food coming directly to my home it was a done deal.
Basic Order Process
PetFoodDirect.com is easy to navigate and find any number of pet food and products. They have primarily food for dogs and cats, but they have sections for other pets as well like rabbits, birds, hamsters and fish etc. I have not purchased any of these items so I can not say how their selection or pricing is. My review covers food and treats I have purchased for my dog and cat.
Besides the easy to follow website the shopping cart is easy to deal with. Payments can be made with Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. You can save your payment info in your account so that the next time you sign in to place an order you will not have to re-enter so much information.
Selection
I have been pleased with the selection of foods available for my dog and cat. They carry a lot of brands that I can not find in the regular store which is great because my animals seem to need to eat special foods to stay in good health. I have purchased prescription food, as well as higher quality premium pet foods and treats from Pet food Direct.
Ordering Prescription Food
If you are ordering food that requires a prescription, you can use their website to order what you want and then when it gets toward the end of the process there is a place to put in your pet's name, the vet's name and phone number. Pet food direct will call and get authorization from your vet before completing your order. Usually the vet will fax the prescription to Pet Food Direct.
If you have a written script you can mail it or fax it to them directly. I have had to call Pet food direct about the prescriptions and have always found them to be very helpful. Once your order is set you should be able to re-order as long as your prescription is still valid without having to get a new script from your vet. If your's is expired they will call your vet and get reauthorization.
Auto Ship
If you are like me you will want to figure out how much food you need and set up an Auto Ship order for it so that it will just automatically arrive before you run out. The website has a section of your profile for autoship where you can go and check to see when your next shipment is. You can also change the date or quantity of the food. Pet Food Direct also allows you to put your Auto Ship order on hold if you need to.
Besides convenience the other nice thing about Auto Ship is that Pet Food Direct gives you 15% off non prescription items that are on Auto Ship.
Delivery
Pet Food Direct offers several shipping choices. Their shipping prices are not bargain rate but they are fair. I think that some companies that offer free or low cost shipping because they roll the prices into the cost of the food. A recent order of 21 lbs of canned cat food had a price for shipping of $13.
Customer Service
I have had enough experience with Pet Food Direct to have had to call them on several occasions. I have always been able to get someone on the phone or at the very least a call back. One time some treats I ordered were on back order for a prolonged period of time and the representative sent me a coupon for 20% off my next order.
When I am dealing with a business I do not expect there to never be a problem. but judge them more for how they handle problems that do arise. In my experience Pet Food Direct has employees that really care about their customers.
